Don’t you just flip at hearing the name of the dish? Well, I do!
Sesame chicken is a favorite take out dish like many others. I adore it! The issue however is that a lot of times, the chicken gets sickeningly sweet. I’m not a big fan of savory sweet mix. I absolutely dislike pineapple fried rice!
Having said that, my sesame chicken leans to the spicy side with a mild sweet after taste. Its’ extremely unhealthy and made only on special occasions like Fridays… of course Fridays are special!
Here’s what you need to coat the chicken
I used chicken breasts and cut them into strips as even as I could.
Make a thick batter with corn flour, soy sauce and egg.
I am a clumsy oaf.
Dunk the chicken pieces into the batter and let it rest for 5- 10 minutes.
Heat enough oil and deep fry the chicken.
I did warn you right at the beginning! But come on you live once… just work it out in the gym.
For the sauce or the glaze you need,
I felt fancy and used rice wine vinegar. Any vinegar will work.
Whisk all of the above ingredients, season with salt and set aside.
You also need,
Working on the glaze, heat oil preferably peanut oil in my favorite kitchen tool of all time, THE WOK!
Add chopped garlic and chopped white part of the spring onion. Chinese cooking is all about high fire quick cooking, so hurry up…
Add julienned pepper and give it a quick toss.
Pour in the sauce and stir around.
Add chicken pieces and flip in the air to glaze the chicken with the amazing sauce! I almost died at this point.
Annnndddd we’re done! Plate up immediately and out of the kitchen goes. Oh bring the plate back…
I forgot something as always. There’s no sesame in the sesame chicken. Sprinkle sesame all over and off you go 🙂
Delicious is not the word!
Why drink water…
Please focus on the chicken and not the choice behind.
There that should help 🙂
Have a great day!
