Green Masala Prawns

Yes, Prawns again! Hello guys! Prawns are such a weakness. My biggest fear is spotting prawns while snorkeling. I want to avoid feeling sorry for them. I also associate prawns with a typical Sunday lunch. It brings to me memories of my childhood when my dad would land up at the fish market by 8 A.M. just so he could buy the biggest variety of prawn available. We’d wake up to his loud meaningless songs by which he entertained himself as he deveined prawns 🙂

Prawns= celebration… even if it just means a public holiday.

So here’s a really simple recipe… really really simple recipe (can’t emphasize enough)… to excite every single soul at home!

This is all you need

Grind coriander, cumin, garlic and green chili into a smooth paste using as little water as possible.

Once that is done, heat oil in a wok and cook the paste for 3-4 minutes stirring continuously.

If cars and bikes are women, woks are men!

Once the green masala is cooked, add prawns and season to taste.

Mix the prawns with the masala and add a little water to aid the cooking process.

Squeeze lemon juice to wake up the flavors!

Cook until the prawns are done and plate up!

Serve with whatever you wish to. Brown rice works for me 🙂

Medium Prawns 6-8

Coriander sprigs half bunch

Cumin 1 tsp

Garlic pods 5-6

Green chili 1-2

Lemon juice 1 tsp.

Water 3-4 tbsp.


In a food processor, grind coriander, cumin, garlic and green chilies into a smooth paste with little water. Heat oil in a wok and fry the paste for 3-4 minutes until you can’t smell raw garlic anymore. Add prawns and mix with the green masala. Add around 2-3 tbsp. of water and stir. Season with salt and squeeze fresh lemon juice. Cook the prawns and serve up with lime wedges.
