Burgers are so awesome! They stare in your direction begging you to bite into them. But then again, my stupid system says AVOID! This led me to creating my very own healthy alternative to a burger…a burger! There is no freaking alternative! I used whole wheat burger buns to calm my conscience.
I like my burger chunky and juicy and this burger fulfills all my requirements. A thick patty and melted cheese blanketed with whole wheat buns is what this is!
What you need
Here’s a closer look at the whole wheat buns! I chose healthy over pretty.
Mix salt, crushed pepper and garlic powder into the chicken mince.
Shape the mince into thick patties and refrigerate for about half an hour. This helps them hold shape.
Heat some olive oil in a pan and slide the patties into the pan.
Cook for 2-3 minutes and flip over.
Golden brown beauties with crisp edges… Yes, I am salivating!
Top with sliced onions and flip to caramelize the onions.
Place a cheese slice and watch it melt. Keep a napkin handy to stop the drooling!
Slice the burger bun and place the lower bun over the cheese and the upper dome over the lower bun. This helps them warm through. You can also toast the bun and assemble separately.
Lift the patty and place the top half of the burger bun under the patty. Flip over and they’re ready to go…
You can add toppings of your choice, pickled gherkins, mayonnaise, Dijon…
I like mine with tomato and lettuce.
Fries only for the photograph, I promise.
I made some apple and pear coleslaw. It was ahhhmaazzinngg! I shall post the recipe soon J
Hope you guys try this one!
Have a great day!
